Colossians 3:15, "Let the peace of Christ be in control in your heart (for you were in fact called as one body to this peace). and be thankful."
Have you ever been in a situation where you have lost all control due to your emotions? Many times we react with our feelings instead of responding by the peace the Lord Jesus gave us to stand in and use. Thinking before your speak can only truly come from the obedience in the Word as well as the discipline we must acquire and allow the power of the Holy Spirit to help us in all situations. We can either act or react and this can include by staying silent long enough to heed to the Holy Spirit and allow the Lord to guide us peacefully.
In our unconscious mind, we believe we can allow our flesh to live with our spirit, but the Bible says differently. “For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other.” The Word also tells us, “For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.” The Lord desires for us to be His shining light in every situation we either face. There is reason for that warning of being swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to wrath. The spirit of the Lord can keep us out of trouble, if we just abide by the spirit, not our flesh. Remember, some battles are not worth engaging in. We are to resist the devil so he will flee. Walk in the the fruit of the spirits of goodness, kindness, patience and self-control. We bear these fruits and our enemies will see that the Lord lives in us and our actions and reactions can be a testimony of the holy One who lives in us.
Ephesians 4:6, " Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God."
